#MentoringMatters: What is out there?
Many of you wanted to hear more about issues in research mentorship - letβs start with whatβs available for non-research/academia mentorship. Guider, a mentoring software used by large companies such as Deloitte, Kantar and The Guardian, have collated a list of mentoring statistics from surveys targeted at individuals working in industry.
71% of Fortune 500 companies have mentoring programmes
79% of millennials see mentoring as crucial to their career success
Mentees are promoted 5 times more often than those without mentors
Mentoring programs boosted minority representation at the management level from 9% to 24%
Visit Guiderβs article for more mentoring stats - the more you know, the more youβd wonder why this is not equally applicable to research:
How many universities have mentoring programmes?
What can we do if we donβt know what our options are in research?
Where can we find people to mentor and to be mentored by, specific to our fields of interest?
This is exactly why we started CABLE: to provide all the benefits of mentorship to undergraduates and postgraduates through a global research mentorship community. And you can be part of our mission - if youβre interested in becoming a mentor or a mentee in our next cohort (July to September 2022), please reach out today. You will make a difference π
