It has been 10 months since the ideation of CABLE, and a lot has happened since... from the initial creation of materials, designing of operational processes, pitching to potential mentors and reaching out to universities to recruit mentees, we have come a long way. We are so proud to announce that we are going full speed ahead with our official launch, and in today's newsletter we want to share these exciting headlines with you:

We're Kicking it Off with an Insight Day

CABLE is launching our flagship research mentorship programme with an insight day, where our past mentors and mentees come together to discuss their experiences in mentorship. This will be a day filled with interesting discussions, networking opportunities and early bird chances to sign up for our mentorship programme. The highlight of this event is our keynote panel, "Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Mentorship", where experts from various fields will come together to discuss the important aspects of mentorship.

When and where?
The CABLE insight day will be hosted online on 31st October 2021 from 15.00 to 16.30 GMT.


Who are the speakers?
We have invited people who are passionate about mentorship to speak about their experiences and aspirations, including past CABLE mentors, student leaders, and seasoned researchers:

• Anushree Joshi, MA in Social Work (biomedical engineer turned social work student!)

• Joris Šimaitis, PhD in Industrial Ecology, Chair at Editors for Impact

• Kian-Yong Lee, Researcher at Gilead Sciences, previous PhD at Cambridge/post-doc at UC San Diego

• Isha Kulkarni, Associate at RMI India / Civil Engineering Graduate

What can I expect?

New Joiners in Our Team

CABLE has been actively expanding the team to recruit committed individuals who will play a key role in running the mentorship programme and building a community with members at its core.

We are pleased to announce that we have welcomed a new Head of Community Development and a Project Advisor to our team. Check out their profiles below:

 

Will Chan, Head of Community Development

Will is currently studying for a Master's in Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces at Imperial College London, specialising in theoretical physics having graduated with a Master's in Mathematical Sciences from Durham University in 2019. He worked in industry as a Technology Consultant and Data Scientist for two years, primarily working as part of a machine learning research incubator. 

In industry and education Will has led several initiatives focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, in addition to being an ambassador for a leading mental health charity. He is especially excited to look at making research and higher education more accessible to minority groups and those that might be considered to be from a 'disadvantaged' background.

Project Advisors support mentors and mentees throughout a holistic mentorship programme while facilitating project goals and activities to enable programme success. While doing so, they meet top scholars all around the world and build and observe effective learning plans with other students in their fields of study.
